The Ministry of Trade (MoT) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia established a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity program in 2013. As per MoT requirements, all consignments falling under the scope of the published list of norms shall be accompanied by a Certificate of Conformity (CoC). The CoC should also be accompanied by relevant test reports of the import goods. In the absence of a valid COC at customs, the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade will systematically proceed with a local physical inspection, sampling, and laboratory analysis which creates delays in clearing customs and additional fees for the importer.
